What Gatwick's drop-off zone costs — and the free way to avoid it.
Dropping someone at the terminal? Gatwick charges to use the forecourt right outside departures. Here's exactly what it costs, how long you can stay, and the free alternative that most people don't know about.
Gatwick's terminal drop-off charge is £10 for up to 10 minutes, then £1 per minute up to 20 minutes, capped at £30, with a 30-minute maximum stay. It applies at both North and South Terminal forecourts. You can instead use a Long Stay car park free for up to two hours, with a free shuttle to the terminal.
The charge is enforced by number-plate cameras, and you pay online, by phone or via an AutoPay account by midnight the day after — miss it and you risk a Parking Charge Notice. Blue Badge holders are exempt from the drop-off charge.
It's £10 for up to 10 minutes at the terminal forecourt, then £1 for each further minute up to a 30-minute maximum, capped at £30. Cameras read your plate automatically; you pay online, by phone or through AutoPay by midnight the following day. There is no free short-stop at the forecourt itself.
If you're leaving the car to fly rather than just dropping off, you need parking, not the forecourt. Compare Gatwick short stay parking and Gatwick meet and greet.
Yes. You can park in a Gatwick Long Stay car park free for up to two hours and take the free shuttle to the terminal — useful if you want time for a proper goodbye or a delayed arrival. Beyond two hours, standard Long Stay rates apply, so pre-booked parking is cheaper for anything longer.
For a genuine drop and go, the two-hour free Long Stay window is the money-saver. For leaving the car during a trip, a pre-booked space is far cheaper than the gate — see cheapest Gatwick parking.
Meet & greet still uses the terminal forecourt for the handover, so the drop-off charge can apply. Some parking partners include it in the price and some don't — check at booking. Park & ride avoids the forecourt entirely because you go to an off-airport compound instead.
If avoiding the forecourt charge matters, Gatwick park and ride sidesteps it. See all options on the Gatwick airport parking pillar.
